Gross.
Luckily there's a kid who's the real deal at Providence College in Rhode Island.
His name is Tim McCaig. Not only is he hilarious, kind, and well-spoken (about to declare a major in English), but an amazing freestyler and rapper. I've heard him first hand and he's great.
Picture a kind of Eminem flow with a deep Drake voice.
...And I do believe he's single.
"My names HearSay, it means listen and then speak," he explains.
"Freestyling is the residue of hours and hours of writing so now it comes naturally. its like anything else you have to practice to get better at. I put alot of thought and effort into everything I write. its heartfelt. I intend to say something that leave people thinking, reconsidering, and inspiring them to think differently."
His interest in music goes back to when he was young, from being curious and inspired by what he saw.
"I got interested just from watching people do it since I was little and figured why cant i try that? I used to write lyrics since i was young and it kinda was an easy transition into rapping," he says.
"My inspirations to write lyrics are pretty diverse. The personality and energy of Eminem's old sound is probably my favorite. Of course all the legends go without saying, but more specifically Styles P, Lupe, Slug of Atmosphere. I grew up on the Beatles and classic rock so I find a lot of inspiration in Bob Dylan and others as well."
What a great interviewee.
"My audience is anyone who wants to listen and appreciate my attempt to contribute to music in general," he said.
McCaig is genuinely passionate about his stuff, and you can tell. His tracks are honest, catchy, and decidedly professional, from what I've heard.
Everyone should give him a listen on his Sound Cloud page.
He sounds better than some of the stuff they put on GoodMusicAllDay.
"I've made alot of tracks over the last couple years but I'd have to say 'Weakness' is my favorite because it expresses a lot of the emotions I have for music."
He collaborates with a number of other local New Jersey artists.
"My boy from the town over produces all my beats, vocals, and all the production as well as recording," he tells me.
"He's a real prodigy, he adds the "it" factor to my songs. His name's Juan Cortes and you'll probably see him make it one day. I also have done a couple songs with other artists, all from jersey, Paul Meezy, Hunter Waterman, and my single "Weakness" features Bianca Imani singing on the chorus."
McCaig is a true talent. Let your friends and roommates listen. Share it with your significant other for Valentine's day. Give it to your parents to listen to if they're into it.
This kid's the bomb.
